The intelligence aspect of Artificial Intelligence has been behind a glass screen since the decades. It lived in data centers, it manipulated strands of text and it rendered colored pixels, but it could never reach out to touch the world with its arm. The online isolation era is ending. We have entered the era of Physical AI, the union of high-level cognitive models and the mechanical bodies of advanced robotics.
Physical AI is the transition of a thinking to an acting computer. It is the last edge of AI revolution: the point when silicon-based intelligence will be able to navigate, manipulate, and transform the material atoms of our reality.
1. The Breakthrough of Moravec Paradox.
Moravec Paradox In order to comprehend why Physical AI is only now getting to a tipping point, we need to consider the Paradox proposed by Moravec. In the 1980s it was discovered that high level reasoning (playing chess, calculating movements in a stock) required very little calculation but low-level sensorimotor (walking around a room with a bunch of stuff in it, picking up an egg) skills required immense computational resources.

Robots are now learning the physical world common sense through human motion, and physics-correct simulation (Sim-to-Real).
2. The Humanoid Form Factor ascent.
Although there have been specialized robots, such as the orange arms in automobile factories, the present day gold rush is in General-Purpose Humanoids. Figure, Tesla (Optimus) and Boston Dynamics are companies that are betting on the human form.
Why a humanoid? Since our whole world our staircases, our door knobs, our equipment, our kitchen surfaces, are all created by human beings in the service of human beings. To be really general purpose, a robot has to have to be part of an already established infrastructure.

Home Cleaning Robot: The Holy Grail of robotics- a home cleaning robot capable of navigating through a messy home, folding clothes, and loading a dishwasher.
4. Edge Computing: The Brain on the Move.
A special technical issue of physical AI is Latency. A chatbot has the capability of responding within two seconds, and that is okay. A bipedal robot or self-driving car cannot afford to wait two seconds until a cloud server tells it how to balance itself.
Physical AI is creating an Edge AI hardware revolution. They are high-performance chips within the body of the robot which enable it to process visual data and make split-second motor decisions on-board. It is this reflexive type of intelligence that enables a robot to reach out to a falling object, or to maintain its posture after being mishandled.
5. Factory to the "Wild"
We are moving out of Structured Environments and into Unstructured Environments.
Systematic: A factory floor where all the bolts are consistently in the same location.
Unplanned: a building site, a disaster area or a busy hospital aisle.
The Foundation Models of Robotics is used in Physical AI in order to deal with the unexpected. A robot does not crash its software when it runs into a puddle, a barking dog or a human being walking into it. It makes predictions of the physical properties of the obstacle using its training and changes its route on-the-fly. This is the transitional factor of robots, the transition between the world and the lab and this is referred to as this Spatial Intelligence.
6. The Economic Ripple Effect: The Labor Gap.
Demographics is the main reason why Physical AI exists as opposed to cool tech. The developed regions of the world are experiencing an ageing population and declining work force in the manual labour fields.
Physical AI is being placed as a remedy to the Labor Gap. The 3D Jobs: Dirty, Dull, and Dangerous in the logistics, construction and waste management are being taken over by robots. This trend will probably cause a re-shoring of manufacturing, with the cost of robotic labor becoming competitive to offshore human labor and goods will be produced nearer to the point of consumption.
7. Collaborative Robotics (Cobots)
The future does not lie in the robots taking over the human beings but the Cobots. They are the robots that are developed to operate with humans.
With physical AI, such machines can sense what is going on around them. They can also sense the existence of a human being using infrared and sight whereby they decelerate or change the posture to ensure that they are safe.
